Bolt.diy vs Bolt.new

Can someone explain to me why I get better results using bolt.new than using bolt.diy despite using Sonnet in both? Why is this?

Thanks!

Can you provide some examples?

Not really. I built an app using bolt.new and it turned out amazing. Tried many times to build an app with bolt.diy and quite often I cant even get it to buildā€¦

HI all,

bolt.new is fully optimized to work with Sonnet 3.5. So the prompt behind it works very good and also the starter templates they use.

bolt.diy has much more LLMs/Providers available and the prompt is more common and doesnt work with all perfectly.

In the Settings=>Features you can switch between ā€œDefault Promptā€ and ā€œOptimized Experimentalā€ and see if you maybe get better results.
There is also an Bolt.diy Extension Library in development, which also will help in the future to get better results.

Also try to use Starter Templates which are new since the last release from yesterday.

A lot of people also trying Ollama and quite small models => you cant expect the same results from small local models as you get from big ones like sonnet or google gemeni.

Common: Bolt.diy is an open source project and still a lot features etc. missing and will come in the next months.

Hope this helps.

Hi David.

Take a look at a post I completed a couple of days ago. Out of frustration I thought Iā€™d do some comparisons to different models using a single prompt but slightly tougher than ā€œMake me a coffeeā€.

This particular prompt worked very well on Bolt.new and yes my experience there was way better in the short term. But, even after spending $40 in tokens there, ended up with some circular errors it couldnā€™t resolve. Had to roll-back several hours of work more than once and ended up in the same position again. And, let me be quite open and honest here. Support at Bolt.new is non existent.

Sure, I was learning how to work the tool and getting frustrated at the same time. But this is ground breaking tech and youā€™d be insane not to get excited about it. That means digging-in when things get tough. Look around and use resources to learn where you might be going wrong, ask questions and read a lot. Get ā€œCuriousā€ā€¦

@ColeMedin Iā€™m sure Col has heard this also. Out of 5 or so PRā€™s raised and multiple emails to support, I received one response and that wasnā€™t from ā€˜herā€™ personal Stackblitz account - so the ā€˜promiseā€™ of support was lost in the possibly thousands of emails theyā€™re getting daily to ā€˜hello@stackblitz.comā€™. - actuallyā€¦ Iā€™ve just checked and I received a proper response 2hrs ago. I started asking for support 1st Dec 2024. At least here Iā€™ve received amazing support from @aliasfox Michael and @leex279 Thomas. Thanks guys - pure gold.

end rant

Take a look at this post and see if it helps at all - please let me know.

Comparing providers and models - itā€™s just a guide but thereā€™s some good advice there also.

The guys are working around the clock to improve this product. Be patient and stay curiousā€¦ :innocent:

@shawn I appreciate you shouting out Michael and Thomas! The bolt.new team is super overwhelmed from the conversations Iā€™ve had with them so I donā€™t blame them for the delays for support, but I totally get that it is frustrating!

@ColeMedin - exactly why I thought Iā€™d try and help as long as Iā€™m not getting in the way. Iā€™ll only post if Iā€™m certain Iā€™m helping.
