@jez the errors is very generic and there are a lot of possible problems behind. So no one can tell you if it is fixed with an update or if you even got the same problem as the @GodRich.
Also as you have problems, you should not be on the main branch. Checkout the documentation where explicitly the “stable” branch is mentioned to checkout, unless you want to contribute / test out newest features, but then you also need to know how to debug and give feedback about your findings:

You can switch now without new cloning to stable with:
